JetPCL Enterprise Server is available in a variety of feature sets. Each feature set consists of a grouping of features controllable with various switch options. The following is a list of available platforms, emulation levels, and input/output formats supported. Which feature set is activated in your product will depend on licensing.

Emulation levels:

  • LaserJet 5 (PCL-5e with TrueType and HP-GL/2 support)
  • LaserJet 5 with support for additional non-western typefaces such as: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Cyrillic, Greek, Hebrew and Arabic.
  • LaserJet 6 (PCL-6 with TrueType, HP-GL/2 and PCL-XL support)

Some PCL escape codes are not currently supported. Some are unrelated to document imaging, while others are not commonly used in the field.

Output formats:

  • Adobe PDF (readable by any of the Acrobat products)
  • TIFF Class-F (this is a very common file format for Faxing or Archiving)
  • CCITT T.6 (standard Group 4 Fax data compression)
  • CCITT T.4 (standard Group 3 Fax data compression)
  • Standard DCX (this is basically a multi page PCX file)
  • Standard PCX (one page per file)
  • Standard BMP (one page per file)
  • HP-PCL (output that is ready for sending to a PCL printer)
  • Postscript (output that is ready for sending to a Postscript printer) Output image resolution is available in 200, 400, 300 or 600 dpi.

Input formats:

  • HP-PCL (input that has data ready for sending to a PCL printer)
  • TIFF Class-F (this is a very common Fax file format)
  • CCITT T.6 (standard Group 4 FAX formats)
  • CCITT T.4 (standard Group 3 FAX formats)
  • Standard DCX (this is basically a multi page PCX file)
  • Standard PCX (one page per file)
  • Standard BMP (one page per file)

Input formats are limited to appropriate image sizes, monochrome color and supported compression methods. Generally speaking, JetPCL will accept as input the same type of files as it produces as output.

JetPCL System Requirements:

Storage:
  • 9.4 Mb minimum (or 15 Mb maximum) disk space for the JetPCL executable and data files.
Execution:
  • Between 3 and 6 Mb of memory during execution depending on the output dpi requested. This is configurable using the -b switch. If memory is not available a disk based swap file will be used.
Data files:
  • JetPCL uses and creates support files to perform its functions. By default JetPCL uses the following support files:
    • JETPCL.CFG - Configuration file
    • JETPCL.CTL - Control file
    • MT\*.* files - Microtype typeface files
    • SFT\*.SFT files - Softfont files
    • MAC\*.MAC files - Macro files
    • PAT\*.PAT files - Pattern files
    • SYM\*.SYM files - Symbol Set files
    • SYM\*.TRN files - Text Translation files

These figures are general and might vary among platforms and feature sets. Also, some of these are optional and might be discarded in situations that have limited resources and require a smaller footprint.
