The Win32 NET command can be used to assign a port to a shared printer (such as JetPCL Document Capture or JetPCL Print Filter). The shared printer might exist on the local machine or another machine of the local network. When this is done programs and applications that are able to send PCL print data directly to a port are able to be used with any type of shared printers.
This can be useful in situations where an application expects a LaserJet PCL printer to be connected to a physical port and the printer is actually connected to the machine using a special
port, such as a USB port or a network printer. If the printer is not a PCL printer, installing JetPCL Print Filter will enable the printer to handle PCL data when sent to the port or to the
shared printer name. If the printer is JetPCL Document Capture, the application will be able to print to an electronic document format.
The NET command is used as follows:
NET HELP USE Display syntax help.
NET USE LPT3: \\DELLXPS\HP-LaserJet-5 Map port to printer.
NET USE LPT3: /DELETE Delete port mapping.
